Oldham County Public Library seeks enthusiastic and qualified applicants for the paraprofessional position of Cataloger in the Technical Services Department.

OCPL is looking for a candidate with good working knowledge of public libraries, current metadata standards, authority control, AACRII, Dewey Decimal System classification, MARC records, and Library of Congress subject headings. Duties will consist primarily of copy cataloging, dealing with a variety of materials. Other duties include coordinating and placing monthly materials orders, assigning Cutter –Sanborn numbers, processing materials, and other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

Ethical person with a good attitude and good interpersonal skills

Detail-oriented person with good work ethic

Able to accurately and consistently follow procedure, including processing numbers and letters

Open mind towards change and willingness to learn new things

Able to sit for extended periods of time

Able to work using a computer keyboard, mouse and monitor for up to 7 hours per day

Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds

Preferred qualifications:

Experience cataloging in a public library Technical Services Department

Familiarity with The Library Corporation software, LS2

Experience with electronic resources

Some familiarity with emerging metadata standards

Good sense of humor

Oldham County Public Library’s Main Library, including the Technical Services Department, is located in a beautiful wooded setting near historic downtown La Grange, Kentucky. The OCPL system has a branch in Crestwood and a branch in Goshen, serving a diverse group of Oldham County residents. OCPL is growing. A new Goshen branch is in the planning stages, and a renovation that will significantly increase the size and service offering of the Crestwood branch is under discussion.
