NOTICE OF FACULTY POSITION IN LIBRARY SCIENCE (Tenure Track)


DATE OF APPOINTMENT:  Late August, 2012.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited institution is required.  The ability to teach computer application software (such as Microsoft Office) in a classroom setting is required.  The ability to teach, to advise and counsel with students and faculty, and to work cooperatively with other library faculty and staff are strongly desired.  Successful library experience and competence in technical service areas are desirable.

THE POSITION:  Perkins Library seeks a progressive, service-oriented librarian with a broad range of current skills and interests to assume responsibility for technical services and instruction in the use of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.  Primary responsibilities include cataloging, serials control, oversight of acquisitions processes, and teaching sections of "Introduction to Computer Tools."  Shared responsibilities include bibliographic instruction, web page development, reference services, and collection development.  This is a tenure track position.  Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
THE DEPARTMENT:  Perkins Library, with three faculty librarians, is a progressive, service-oriented member of the Hastings College academic community.  The Georgian Revival structure (1964) contains a full array of library materials (about 100,000 books and current subscriptions to more than 450 journals) and provides direct access to a collection many times as large through its subscriptions to online databases.

THE COLLEGE:  Founded in 1882, Hastings College is an independent, coeducational, Presbyterian-related, national liberal arts college with an enrollment of about 1193 students.  The student/faculty ratio is 13/1.  The median ACT composite of entering students is about 24.

THE COMMUNITY:  Hastings (pop. 25,000) is an attractive residential community in South-Central Nebraska, 100 miles west of Lincoln, and 15 minutes south of Interstate 80.  The city enjoys good public and private schools, offers excellent professional and community services, and serves as a cultural center for a large surrounding area.
