This position is available no later than July 1, 2012 at a rank commensurate with experience and

qualifications. It is a twelve-month non-tenure earning academic appointment with generous fringe

benefits; rank and salary will be based on qualifications.

 

Responsibilities: The Digital Resources/Preservation Librarian will take a lead role in the creation,

maintenance, and stewardship of digital collections, and the implementation and maintenance of discovery

tools related to these initiatives. The successful candidate will evaluate and modify operating procedures

and workflows as needed; improve access to digitized content through ongoing evaluation of the Library's

services; investigate relevant standards and best practices and maintain compliance with standards,

including metadata standards; investigate, plan, and manage format conversions and migrations; plan,

implement, and monitor external contracts providing digitization and other related services; seek and/or

manage grant funding for digital initiatives; develop an in-depth knowledge of new technology; seek

collaboration opportunities with other libraries and institutions; develop preservation and curation plans

for digital content in repositories; and participate in the creation of online exhibitions and presentations.

 

The Digital Resources/ Preservation Librarian will train and supervise a production staff involved in digital

collections and preservation, and train staff and others in processes and procedures to help develop high

levels of productivity and quality for the digital collections and general preservation efforts.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA accredited program. Experience in an academic

library; two or more years’ experience with current digital library technologies, standards, and practices;

experience with implementing and maintaining digital content management systems such as CONTENTdm,

DSpace, EPrints, and Fedora; general cataloging experience using the OCLC system; experience with a

variety of metadata and markup standards, including Dublin Core, EAD, TEl, MARC, and appropriate

controlled vocabularies.

 

Preferred qualifications: Additional advanced degree; cataloging experience using the Voyager system;

experience in managing digital projects; experience in developing interfaces for accessing online resources;

experience administering grants; knowledge of database management principles and software; and

supervisory experience.
