JOB SUMMARY:

Work for the largest Intellectual Property Rights Entity in the United States - United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This position is located in the Scientific and Technical Information Center,(STIC),in the Electronic Information Center (EIC). The incumbent will serve as first line supervisor for a professional and technical staff working in a high-paced, customer service driven environment that supports patent examination, and addresses information needs arising out of specific patent applications.

DUTIES:

As a Supervisory Technology Information Specialist, you will perform the following:
 

  • Plan, organize, and direct the operation of an electronic information center (EIC), which provides professional search, information services, and automation support for patent examiners in a Technology Center.
  • Direct the provision of reference and non-patent literature website development, and automation support for patent examiners.
  • Develop goals and objectives that integrate the EIC's products and services with objectives of the Scientific and Technical Information Center (STIC), the Technology Centers, and agency objectives.
  • Plan and schedule the work of the EIC in a manner that promotes smooth flow and even distribution.  This includes establishing policies and procedures for the accomplishment of prior art searches, assuring that search products meet quality and timeliness standards.
  • Establish metrics and analyze systems to ensure products and services provided are correct, timely and reviewed at critical points.
  • Serve as the chief representative of STIC to the Technology Center for which assigned.
  • Serve as government monitor for contractor activities conducted in the assigned EIC.
