Job description (250 word limit):
This is a tenure-track
faculty position in the organization of information. Expertise in organizing
information in support of organizational intranet and internet services
preferred. Interest in improving information access for the underserved
expected.
The St. John’s
University Division of Library and Information Science (DLIS) is located in the
New York Metropolitan Area, with campuses in Manhattan, Queens and Long Island.
International campuses are located in Rome and Paris. New York provides a
premiere location for a faculty member in Library and Information Science with
its remarkable librarians, archivists, analysts and other information
specialists and outstanding libraries, archives and other information centers.
These provide incomparable opportunities for collaboration, research and
teaching.
DLIS maintains
high academic standards and features small highly interactive classes: a
mixture of on-campus, online and hybrid offerings, designed to provide
excellence and flexibility. These are supplemented by various symposia and
colloquia that take advantage of the remarkable resources of New York. The
faculty is dedicated and cohesive, with a strong commitment to prepare students
for outstanding service to society, particularly to the underserved.
Responsibilities:
Teach three courses per term (reductions to two courses per term are available
in the first year and through competitive application to the dean), participate
actively in the developing the MLS program and furthers the mission of DLIS and
St. John’s University, undertake research that advances the profession’s
service to society.
