The School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, The iSchool at The University of British Columbia, is very pleased to announced two faculty members are being presented with awards at the 2012 Association for Library Information Science Education (ALISE) conference being held in Dallas this week.
Dr. Eric Meyers won the prestigious ALISE/Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Competition Award. This is a competitive award and it is the first time it has been presented to a SLAIS faculty member. Dr. Meyers completed his dissertation, “The Nature and Impact of Information Problem Solving in the Middle School Classroom” at The University of Washington iSchool, and has been a faculty member at UBC since 2009.
Dr. Heather O’Brien and 2011 MLIS graduate Mahria Lebow, won the ALISE/Dialog Methodology Paper Competition for their co-authored paper, “Is There a Role for Physiological Methods in the Evaluation of Human-Information Interaction?” Dr. O'Brien joined the UBC faculty in 2008.
Both awards will be presented at the 2012 ALISE Conference, January 17-20 in Dallas.
Dr. Meyers' research interests focus on youth information interaction, collaborative information seeking and retrieval, theories of learning and cognition, new media, virtual worlds, and services for youth in school and public libraries.
In her research, Dr. O'Brien examines theories of user experience,  methods of evaluating user experience, user perception research, scale development and evaluation, and the role of affect, behaviour  and cognition in users' interaction with technology.
