The iSchool at Drexel Congratulates Dr. Eileen Abels, ALISE Vice-President/President-Elect and 2012 Award Recipient

The iSchool at Drexel congratulates Eileen Abels, Ph.D., Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the iSchool, for her election to Vice-President/President-Elect of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) and for receiving the 2012 ALISE Award for Professional Contribution to Library and Information Science (LIS) Education. The annual ALISE award is given to individuals nominated by colleagues for their exemplary service, contributions and leadership in promoting and enhancing the broad areas of and issues in library and information science education.

Dr. Abels has shown an enduring commitment to enhancing the status of library and information science through her research, teaching, and national and international service. Nominations cited her numerous contributions to the library and information science community, including her continuing leadership at the iSchool; her oversight of the Internet Public Library’s (now known as ipl2) move from the University of Michigan to Drexel University; her successful co-chairing of the 2010 ALISE conference; and in co-authoring the Special Libraries Association's “Competencies for Information Professionals.”  A reception to honor Dr. Abels and other awardees will be held during the 2012 ALISE Annual Conference on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel in Dallas, TX.

ALISE is a non-profit organization that serves as the intellectual home of university faculty in graduate programs in library and information science in North America. Its mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching, and service and to provide an understanding of the values and ethos of library and information science. ALISE serves 500 individual members and more than 60 institutional members, primarily in the United States and Canada.
