Applications are invited for the following position in the Faculty of Education.

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Professor in Library and Information Management in the Faculty of Education, tenable from September 1, 2012, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal. The appointee with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract.

Applicants should have teaching and research interests and expertise in library and information science, information management, and other relevant areas. Expertise on research methods in library studies and/or information science research would be desirable. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, a professional teaching qualification in the relevant discipline and substantial experience in teaching at the tertiary level. Knowledge of the local context would be an advantage. The appointee will be required to teach on courses offered by the Faculty at various levels from undergraduate to doctorate, supervise research postgraduate students, undertake teaching practicum supervision, contribute actively to research and undertake administrative responsibilities.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary; housing benefits will be provided as applicable; and relocation allowance will be provided to appointments at professoriate level.
