NAME OF POSITION:  Head of Library Systems

DEPARTMENT:  Paul Meek Library, University of Tennessee at Martin

POSITION:  The University of Tennessee at Martin invites applicants for a Head 
of Library Systems (This is a faculty tenured position).  The Head of Library 
Systems reports directly to the Library Director and provides a leadership role in 
the planning, development, and management of the Library’s technological 
infrastructure.

JOB DUTIES:   

* Provide leadership and direction for library technology resources and services
* Supervise one computer technician and two student workers
* Manage the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) Millennium Integrated library  
   system including, but not limited to, troubleshooting, software/hardware 
   updates, patron file uploads, training, and the WebBridge link resolver
* Serve as liaison between Paul Meek Library and III
* Assist the Library Director with technology planning and project 
   implementation
* Provide support for the Library’s technical platforms including Windows 2008 
   and Linux system administration and troubleshooting, software installation.  
   Current library systems include ILLIAD, EZproxy, 
   Linux based server with Eprints3, and OCLC.
* Support the library’s online electronic database collection (EBSCO, JSTOR, 
   ProQuest, etc.).  This would include working with vendors, UTM networking & 
   Security, and others to ensure secure access to UTM resources
* Serve as the liaison with the Information Technology Services Field Support 
   group for repair of Library equipment
* Serve as the liaison with the Information Technology Services Systems 
   Administration group for issues and projects relating to the UTM 
   Windows/Active Director/VMware/SAN /Linux infrastructure
* Coordinate and provide library faculty and staff training for library systems 
   and new technologies
* Serve at the Reference Desk and provide library instruction as needed
* Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
          
* A Masters in Library and Informational Sciences from an ALA accredited 
   program 
* Experience with an integrated library system and/or web-based public access 
   catalog
* Significant experience with Linux and Windows 2008 systems administration in 
   an Active Directory environment
* Experience in web page development to include html, php scripting, and 
   MySQL
* Effective written and oral communication skills
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment
* Demonstrated potential to meet university promotion and tenure 
   requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

* A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
* Supervisory and leadership ability
* Understanding of MARC records
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
* Experience with III Millennium Integrated Library System
* Familiarity with emerging trends in library service and systems
* Experience with academic library operations and procedures

ADVERTISED SALARY RANGE:   $45,000 to $50,000
