The Library and Information Science program in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a probationary appointment (tenure-track) at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are actively seeking candidates who will bring new areas of expertise and fresh avenues of investigation to our research profile, and we will also consider those whose research complements existing faculty strengths. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research record and interests in the areas of information policy and public administration, including management and workplace issues as they pertain to librarianship. We are also interested in candidates with strengths or cognate interests in the social context and social uses of information, health information, and LIS advocacy and leadership. Teaching experience or interests in the area of reference and government documents would also be an asset.
Library and Information Science education at FIMS is offered in research-intensive graduate programs, including a new joint program in Health Information Science, that currently house approximately 220 MLIS students and more than 25 PhD candidates. Founded upon interdisciplinarity, creative inquiry, critical thinking, and the interleaving of theory and practice in professional and scholarly contexts, the graduate programs in LIS are committed to the expansion, adaptation, and application of the knowledge base of librarianship to the problems and challenges posed by current information environments. The Faculty of Information and Media Studies is one of eleven academic Faculties in The University of Western Ontario, one of Canada’s foremost research intensive Universities.
The normal teaching workload in FIMS is four half-courses per academic year. Applicants should have a PhD completed or nearing completion in LIS or a related discipline, and appointments will commence on July 1, 2012.
