--- As the end of the fall semester approaches, it is once again time for you to evaluate your instructors. 

Your opinion makes a difference and the evaluations are important to your instructors. The Registrar's Office will give away three iPads through a random drawing of students who complete their instructor evaluations. 

The evaluations for fall semester courses are now available online at http://oira.utk.edu/sais/. Click on the link "Fall 2011 Semester Online Evaluations." All student answers are confidential. Please make sure that you complete your evaluations by midnight, December 2.

Mark Your Calendar

--- The UT Rotaract Club will hold a screening of "The Final Inch" at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21  in the Hodges Library Auditorium. This short documentary discusses the ongoing fight to eradicate polio. The film follows healthcare workers as they attempt to immunize children in Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan, and recounts the devastating polio epidemics that have occurred in the United States just a few decades ago. The viewing will be followed by a question and answer session.

--- TeamVOLS’ (Volunteer Outreach for Leadership) 11th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. Day-of check-in is required for all pre-registered volunteers and will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the University Center. All student volunteers need to be signed in by 8:30 a.m. Please note that all volunteers must BOTH register online and sign in at the University Center on Jan. 21. Online registration is now open and will be limited to 500 participants. UT students may sign up as individuals or teams. A light breakfast will be served in the UC Ballroom and the keynote speaker will present in the UC Auditorium from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Transportation will be provided to the off-campus locations where volunteers will serve from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will return to the University Center after their service is complete.

Get Involved

--- Looking for an elective for next semester? Consider taking RSM 425 with Dr. Hayes. The class will meet on Thursday nights, is a 3-hour course credit, and focuses on working with kids with multiple disabilities. Throughout the semester students learn about autism, CP, Down's syndrome, and other disorders, how to do wheelchair transfers, how to adapt activities, and much more, all in preparation to implement Camp Koinonia, April 15-20, 2012. --- The University of Tennessee, the LeaderShape Vision Fund committee, and the Ready for the World committee will be sponsoring a small delegation of students to attend the Midwest Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Ally College Conference (MBLGTACC). This is a three-day conference hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, from Friday, Feb. 10 to Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, focusing on issues facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and ally (LGBTQIA) community. The Gender & Sexuality Council is seeking a fourth delegate to represent the university at the conference. Students who are interested in attending are encouraged to contact Rick Mula ([log in to unmask]), Zachary Brown ([log in to unmask]), or Taylor Odle ([log in to unmask]) with any questions or concerns and for an application. Applications are due to Taylor Odle ([log in to unmask]) by no later than December 1, 2011.

--- Do you love TED Talks? Are you interested in volunteering with TEDx, an independently organized TED event? Would you like to speak at a TEDx event? TEDxUTK, the University of Tennessee’s first TEDx, is looking for volunteers and speakers for their event on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2012. Our theme is "A Whirlwind of Opportunity," and we are accepting submissions from students, faculty, and the general public in every discipline. If you are interested in volunteering (particularly if you have experience with website development and graphic design) or if you would like to speak at TEDxUTK, please e-mail us at [log in to unmask] for more information.

--- CURENT Research Experience for Undergraduates -– The NSF-DOE Engineering Research Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks offers opportunities to work on research topics related to the interconnected electric power grid. The program pays each student $4,000 for 8-10 weeks of research, and campus housing is provided at no cost. Application deadline: Feb. 10, 2012. Ready for the World Events

--- Ready for the World Café diners won't leave Knoxville, but they may think they've been transported to a café on the Mediterranean on Tuesday, Nov. 22, as they enjoy a four-course Southern Italian meal. The Ready for the World Café is a weekly, full-service, fine-dining experience with international themes. It operates in the UT Visitors Center, 2712 Neyland Drive. Lunch, which will consist of intermezzo, or small appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert, will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and capacity is 50 to 60 diners. Cost is $12, and the faculty/staff discount card can be used. To purchase advance tickets, see Marcia in 110 Jessie Harris Building, or call 865-974-6645.
