School Library Media Faculty Position for August 2012

The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies seeks a visionary faculty member for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 16, 2012 at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of School Library Media. The successful candidate will have considerable opportunity to reshape the character and direction of our existing NCATE and ALA accredited School Library Media program.

Position Summary: This energetic individual is expected to maintain an active role in advising master's and doctoral students, supervising graduate internship experiences at K-12 school placements, and participating in professional organizations at the state, national, and international levels. This highly motivated individual should also exhibit the potential to become a nationally recognized researcher and scholar in the areas of school librarianship, information literacy, youth services, and/or instructional technology.

Demonstrated teaching excellence is essential. The teaching load is two graduate courses per semester with the option to teach during the summer. Teaching modes include web-based synchronous distance education and face-to-face (on campus and at our satellite center in Gadsden, AL). All faculty members are expected to work with diverse constituencies, teach in the core curriculum, maintain a vigorous research agenda, engage in interdisciplinary scholarship, and obtain external funding.

Additional Requirements:
·       Earned doctorate in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field
·       Teaching experiences in K-12 schools

The School of Library and Information Studies is part of the College of Communication and Information Sciences, and offers an ALA-accredited Master's program, an MFA program in the book arts, doctoral courses that contribute to a multidisciplinary doctorate in Communication and Information Sciences, and undergraduate courses in Information Science. The MLIS program ranks among the top 25 programs in North America.
