On behalf of the ASIS&T Student Chapter, Adjunct Professor and Manager  
of GSLIS Technology Linnea Johnson accepted the Student Chapter of the  
Year Award at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting. This is the seventh time the

Associate Professor Amy Pattee hosted a panel entitled "YA Fiction: On  
the Edge" at the Boston Book Festival on October 15. The panel  
included graphic novelist Danica Novgorodoff (Refresh, Refresh), Ellen  
Levine, author of In Trouble, and Daniel Nayeri, author ofStraw House,  
Wood House, Brick House, Blow, a collection of novellas. For more

Adjunct Professor Shelley Quezada, the winner of the 2011 New England  
Library Association's Greenaway Award. The award was established in  
1988 to recognize distinguished service in the field of librarianship.  
Quezada, a long-standing GSLIS adjunct who teaches "Literacy and  
Services to Underserved Populations: Issues and Responses" as well as  
in the youth services area, is the Consultant for the Underserved at  
the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. For more about

GSLIS Student Samantha Lee Wickman, the 2011 recipient of the ASCLA  
(Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies) Century  
Scholarship. The annual scholarship provides up to $2500 in funding to  
a current library school student. It was established in 2000.

2011 World Usability Day Celebration Event

What: World Usability Day with the Harvard ADS Lab & Harvard Library  
Innovation Laboratory

The Simmons GSLIS Usability Lab and the Student Chapter of Special  
Library Association are pleased to announce the 2011 World Usability  
Day Celebration Event. The event will feature presentations/ 
demonstrations by two teams about their systems: (1) NASA Astrophysics  
Data System (ADS) from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for  
Astrophysics, and (2) ShelfLife via DPLA from the Harvard Library  
Innovation Laboratory. Informal usability assessments will be  
performed, and feedback will be gathered with regard to the interface  
design and functionality. A light breakfast will be provided.

Preliminary Schedule:
8:30-9:00 Welcome and introductions, networking and breakfast
9:00-10:30 Jay Luker, Harvard/NASA ADS
10:30-12:00 Kim Dulin, Harvard Law Library, ShelfLife via DPLA
12:00 Wrap up and conclusion

The event is free and open to the Simmons community. It is organized  
by the Simmons GSLIS Usability Lab and sponsored by the Special  
Library Association Student Chapter at Simmons.
