75% Information Technology Training/Education, 25% other IT duties to include desktop support, equipment procurement, and other assigned duties.

JOB DESCRIPTION The Extension Area Specialist I – IT is responsible to the Regional Director for coordinating, implementing and evaluating program efforts in information technology, computer applications and client education for the Central Region. This position requires a master’s degree in an IT related field (or) an MS degree in another field with equivalent training and experience appropriate to the IT industry; evidence of ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and evaluate technology-related educational programs; demonstrated qualities of leadership, drive and initiative; effective oral and written communication skills; a sincere desire to work with people, including the disadvantaged and minorities; and a willingness to establish residence in the area where employed. The Extension Area Specialist I- IT will:

Provide leadership for the IT educational program activities that meet the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status.

Develop and maintain a Regional training and educational plan, approved by the Regional Director, that supports the state IT strategic plan and goals.

Provide training for Extension personnel in standard computer applications and technology according to the plan as well as explore, test and incorporate new and emerging technologies into the program.

Advise clientele on the appropriate use of technology, assist with hardware/software procurement and installation.

Actively participate in staff conferences to share technology strategy, opportunities, and provide training.

Provide leadership, guidance and support concerning communication strategies for the Central Region.

Work as an active member of the statewide information technology team by collaboration with statewide Extension IT staff to meet the mission and goals of the strategic plan.

Assume other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS MS degree in IT related field; or, an earned MS degree in Education, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences or related area with considerable training and experience in windows based operating systems, Microsoft applications, tablets and smart phone applications.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (written and orally) effectively with technical and client support groups while exhibiting a customer service focus.

Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to timely completion.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In-depth knowledge of University supported software packages, hardware support, social media platforms and troubleshooting techniques.

Software to include Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat

Hardware to include Windows PC (with limited Mac OS based systems), Windows, Android, OS tablets, and smart phones.

Application platforms to include the University of Tennessee's SAP Information Management System (IRIS), Microsoft SharePoint, and Extension's System for University Planning, Evaluation and Reporting (SUPER).

Expertise in implementing and conducting (in-person and online) educational training on supported applications. Responsible for being knowledgeable in emerging technologies with application to educational enterprises and conducting training on these technologies to keep Extension’s workforce proficient in their use.

Experience in developing educational materials, user manuals and best practices.

Experience working within, maintaining or developing Microsoft SharePoint system.

Knowledge of website design principles and maintenance and/or working as part of a web management team.

Experience with web-development software/tools such as HTML Dreamweaver, CSS, web content management or current equivalent, and knowledge of current and emerging web standards is a plus.
