POSITION TO BE FILLED BY APPOINTMENT
POSITION: CIRCULATION MANAGER – (1 Opening) Annual Salary: $44,796.54 - $71,864.00;
Bi-weekly: $1,722.94 - $2,764.00; Public Services & Neighborhoods/Library J.O. #11-020-R1
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Public Services Central Manager to manage the daily operations of the Circulation Department of the Central Library, including interlibrary loans, and serves as the resource for all circulation-related activities. Assists in developing departmental goals and strategic plans. Provides direct supervision to departmental staff, including work direction, evaluating performance, scheduling shifts, administering discipline, and hiring staff. Interprets and communicates circulation and inter-library loan  policy and procedure to staff, all library agencies, and library customers. Works with Staff Development and Circulation Services Users Group (CSUG) to provide circulation and inter-library loan training for new library employees. Facilitates meetings and continuing education activities of the system-wide committee, CSUG. Gathers and compiles data, including administrative documentation, annual reports, statistical reports, budget reports, etc. Initiates and participates in inter-agency and system-wide efforts serving as leader, facilitator or committee member. Participates in professional organizations and serves on various committees.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.
2. Places or retrieves library materials, which may include bending, stooping, pushing cartloads weighing up to 40 lbs and lifting books weighing up to 25 lbs.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both, verbally and in writing. Must be able to operate computer and all basic office equipment.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a library office environment. Occasional travel to meetings across the City and out-of-town may be required. Some evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school or a related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a library customer service environment with two (2) of the four (4) years in a library supervisory position; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years or progressively responsible experience in a library customer service environment with three (3) of the five (5) years in a library supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience with computerized Public Access Catalogs required. (PROOF OF EDUCATION REQUIRED)

and Technology Library. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian
for Public Services and Site Operations, the Head of the Science and
Technology Library is responsible for the operation of the Library and a
staff of 16, including direct supervision of five librarians and two
non-academic staff members. The Head of the Science and Technology
Library is a member of the Library Heads Committee and participates in
coordinating existing system-wide services as well as the planning and
development of new service initiatives.
The collections of the University of Alberta Libraries exceed seven
million titles and ten million volumes. The Science and Technology
Library is one of the largest of the subject libraries within the
University of Alberta system.  It comprises over a million volumes
including significant collections of government documents, maps,
newspapers, microform and electronic sources.  An innovative service
model - an integrated service desk - provides support for the wide range
of academic disciplines and interests the Library serves.
