Good News

--- Business and pleasure are one and the same for Clark Ensminger, an MBA student at UT Knoxville. A passion for his alma mater and UT football, an artistic background, and a budding interest in business are melded together in his new business venture, Tennessee Prints. Combining his artistic talent and love of UT football, Ensminger created a freehand drawing of Neyland Stadium that is now being sold in the UT Bookstore.

--- The UT chapter of INMM, the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management, will host a panel discussion on the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in the UC Crest Room. Ambassadors Bonnie Jenkins and Thomas Graham Jr. will join in a discussion with experts from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Y-12 National Security Complex, and Oak Ridge Associated Universities about the challenges that come in to play with these new regulations. INMM will be providing light snacks and beverages. Free and open to the public.

--- Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society will be hosting Dr. Mitch Goldman at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd, in AMB 27. Dr. Goldman is the Medical Director of the University of Tennessee Wound Care Center. He is actively involved in education of the general surgery residents, the vascular fellows, medical students who rotate through the department, and high school students who participate in his Medical Explorations Program that began in 1991. --- The Chancellor's Honors Program will host a free screening of the film "The Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture" on Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in the UC Auditorium. --- The Muslim Student Association (MSA) at UT is hosting the Laugh in Peace Tour, with Rabbi Bob Alper, Reverend Susan Sparks, and Mr. Azhar Usman, at the University of Tennessee on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m in the UC Hermitage Room. The event is free and open to the community. The Morning Show from CBS will be here at UT to do a story on the Laugh in Peace Tour. --- UT Knoxville will host a daylong workshop for licensed counselors, clinical psychologists, social workers and others in the helping profession on navigating technology in their daily work, Friday, Nov. 4. The 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. event, "Ethics and the Helping Professions in a Technological World," will be at the UT Visitors Center. Ted Remley, professor of counselor education at Old Dominion University, will be the guest speaker. He is a member of the bar in Virginia and Florida, a licensed professional counselor, and a licensed marriage and family therapist. Seminar topics will include the impact of technology on ethics such as administrative issues in the workplace, clients' consent to use technology, HIPAA and FERPA privacy statutes, social networking, and subpoenas of client records. Registration is $60 for professionals and $20 for UT students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Participants can earn six contact hours toward continuing education. For registrat!

--- A chili lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 in Buehler Hall room 511. For $5, you will receive two bowls of chili, a bag of chips, and a drink. All proceeds benefit Second Harvest of East Tennessee, and the event is sponsored by the Association of Chemistry Graduate Students.

--- The International House and UT African Students Association are sponsoring Africa Week this week. Events at the I-House include the screening of an African film at 6:30 p.m. tonight, an African Coffee House demonstration of cooking and traditional jewelry at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, a South Sudanese/Somali Culture Night at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 (tickets $5), and a Global Hour discussion session about Africa at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3. --- Diners will be saying "aroi" (delicious) after a four-course Thai meal Tuesday, November 1, at UT Knoxville's Ready for the World Café, a weekly, full-service, fine-dining experience with international themes. It now operates in the UT Visitors Center on Neyland Drive.

--- The UT Society of Human Resource Management will be filling shoe boxes for Samaritan’s Purse. These shoe boxes go all over the world to children who would not otherwise have a Christmas.  If you are interested in helping, fill a shoe box or a clear Sterilite box (18” wide by 6-8” deep) wrapped with Christmas paper and  filled with school products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, stuffed animals, etc. Also, please enclose $7 to cover shipping and handling fees (checks should be made payable to Samaritan’s Purse with a note on the memo line for Operation Christmas Child) or go online and prepay the shipping. Please bring the shoeboxes to 415 Stokely Management Center by noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, and the shoeboxes will be transported and mailed for you. You can look online at http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/ for more information about what to put inside the shoeboxes.

--- Help the UT Society of Human Resources Management set up the Fantasy of Trees on Friday, Nov. 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9:00 a.m. to noon or later depending on the football game.
