We require they return the accessories we provide. We don’t accept substitutes. If they can’t return the originals we charge them the actual cost of replacing the lost item. We don’t add a processing fees. Sometimes small accessories are only available as part of a larger item (for example a cord for a power brick). We then charge for the entire item since that’s what we have to buy.

Subject: [LIBNT-L] Off-topic: Charge for Lost accessories

We lend iPads to our patrons.  In several occasions, patrons lost the iPad accessories.  We asked patrons to look for them.  They often came back with non-original ones. My questions are:  Does your library charge patron for lost accessories?  If yes,  how much? Just for the cost of the accessories, or cost plus processing fee.

Thank you,
