The Florida State University School of Library & Information Studies hosts a colloquium presentation by Dr. Jonathon Cummings of Duke University, “Geography is alive and well in virtual teams,” Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, 1:30–2:30 p.m., Room 206, Louis Shores Building. The presentation will be simulcast online and archived for future viewing (see Webcast, below).

Abstract: Geography is alive and well in virtual teams

Although members of a virtual team can work anywhere, the issue of geography is alive and well. Geographic distance and a lack of overlapping work hours impose a large coordination burden on a team. Research is beginning to suggest which circumstances generate the largest burdens and why they do. In this talk, Dr. Cummings discusses a recent research project on the time separation in virtual teams and its implications for the use of technology in distributed collaborations.
