Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is hiring a faculty member 
to serve as the Director of the Information Technology & Informatics

Non-Tenure Track Administrative Faculty Position Available

The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) at Rutgers, the State 
University of New Jersey, is searching for a Director for the 
Information Technology & Informatics (ITI) undergraduate program, to 
begin January 2012. This non-tenure track appointment will be for a 
3-year period at the level of Lecturer.

The Information Technology & Informatics program resides in the 
Department of Library & Information Science in the interdisciplinary 
School of Communication & Information based on the New Brunswick College 
Avenue campus of the university. The program combines courses in 
technology skills along with management and social informatics 
coursework for students interested in assuming leadership positions in 
the technology industry or in information technology departments in 
commercial and non-commercial organizations. The full-time, 12-month 
position includes teaching two courses per semester in the ITI program 
with an option to teach a course in the summer or winter terms. 
Responsibilities include overseeing the ITI curriculum, advising the ITI 
students, participating in recruiting activities, being liaison with 
other university units, and conducting outreach programs with community 
colleges and other educational institutions. The ITI Director works with 
the department chairperson to staff courses each term as well as works 
collaboratively with staff and faculty to provide high quality service 
to students while maintaining the integrity of the academic program. The 
ITI Director plans, schedules, and manages the semester courses and 
supervises the admissions process for the degree. The ITI Director also 
serves as part of the Undergraduate Education Task Force to oversee all 
undergraduate education in the school, serves as part of the school's 
curriculum committee, serves as a member of the Department’s curriculum 
committee, and may also be involved in university-level undergraduate 
curricular activities.  In addition the ITI Director maintains ongoing 
relationships with New Jersey and New York businesses and other 
organizations who are potential employers of ITI students.

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence 
in an institution of higher education, and will have five – ten years of 
experience in business, or in management of a non-profit firm. Program 
management experience in higher education is desirable. A terminal 
degree is required with a PhD preferred in a discipline associated with 
any of the following: Communication, Information Science, Computer 
Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or comparable.

integrate the common elements of people, information, and technology. 
This is exemplified in innovative programs and a large number of funded 
research projects as well as highly visible faculty participation in 
national and international organizations and events. The Department of 
Library and Information Science and the various specializations are 
consistently ranked among the top in their area in North America.
