EP604, Digital tools for qualitative research, will be offered in spring 2012 on Thursdays from 5:05 pm-7:45 pm (face to face.) Dr. Trena Paulus, [log in to unmask]

This hands-on, skills-based course will give students experiences using a variety of technologies for qualitative research studies. The course will highlight how new technologies are changing the essence of what it means to engage in qualitative inquiry. Tools to support each phase of the research process will be explored, e.g. reviewing the literature, engaging in researcher reflexivity, collaborating & managing projects, transcribing, collecting text/video/audio data, analyzing the data, and representing the findings. Ethical issues will be addressed as they relate to each phase of the process.

Students should have had an introductory course in qualitative research prior to taking this class. This course counts towards the Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Research.

Tentative list of tools to be addressed include: blogs, blog readers, Evernote, Google search alerts, Google scholar, Mendeley, Diigo, DiscoverText, Inqscribe, ATLAS.ti, QDA Miner, Transana,Centra, Google docs, Skype, Dropbox, Teamviewer, Doodle, Wordle, Tagxedo, Prezi.
