Shelagh K. Genuis, a recent graduate of the doctoral program at the
University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, whose dissertation committee was
chaired by Dr. Heidi Julien, now Director of SLIS at The University of
Alabama, has won the prestigious 2011 ASIS&T ProQuest Doctoral
Dissertation Award. The ProQuest award recognizes an outstanding recent
doctoral candidate whose research contributes significantly to an
understanding of some aspect of information science, and the prize is
intended to encourage new Ph.D.s to participate in professional
associations, through provision of travel assistance to the ASIS&T
conference and an opportunity for the awardee to present the winning
research. Dr. Genuis was chosen from 20 finalists, and her dissertation is
titled "Making sense of evolving health information: Navigating
uncertainty in everyday life." Look for her at this year's ASIS&T
conference in New Orleans in October, 2011.
