UTK SIS to Host Past Director Dr. Elizabeth Aversa as Final Past Director Lecturer

 

KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences (SIS) celebrates 40 years as an American Library Association accredited program with the final installment in the Past Director Lecture Series featuring Dr. Elizabeth Aversa speaking on ““Changing Lives Through Information Services and Technologies” on Wednesday September 28, 2011.  The lecture will be held on the UT Knoxville campus at the Scripps Convergence Lab Theater in the Communications Building on Circle Park Drive at 12:30 PM. A lunch will be held beforehand starting at 11A M.  This talk is free and open to the public.

Dr. Aversa was Director of UTK SIS from 1999 to 2003, and is currently a professor at the University of Alabama’s School of Library and Information Studies where she served as director for eight years.    She is highly-respected and widely known in the library and information sciences profession. 

The lecture series honors the school’s past directors* for their role in SIS achieving success as one of the nation’s highest ranked programs. Former directors who have spoken are Dr. Ann Prentice and Dr. Jose Marie Griffiths.

Aversa Bio: 

Dr. Aversa, professor at the University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) where she served as director of SLIS for eight years. She earned her Ph.D. from Drexel University in 1984.

Dr. Aversa teaches in areas related to communications and information services in scholarly disciplines (particularly humanities), information science, and social and management systems. Her research interests include library management, systems analysis, bibliometrics, and library and information science education.
