Parents Association Question of the Month

The Parents Association has created a Question of the Month on our website. To offer your anonymous feedback and answer the Question of the Month for August, click here.

In reviewing the feedback last week, we noticed that several parents indicated they did not receive the Handbook and Calendar or TENNESSEE Family Magazine. If you did not receive a Handbook and Calendar or TENNESSEE Family Magazine this summer, please reply to this email with your request. Include your name and mailing address.

Important Information for Students

Major Registration Deadline Approaching

Friday, August 26, 2011 is the last day to add, change the grading options, or drop without a "W" for full term courses for the fall semester. Click here for more information on adding or withdrawing from a course, as well as a complete explanation of possible course grades and marks.

On Monday, August 22 Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan Martin sent an email to all UT Knoxville students, faculty, and staff regarding the new course drop policy. To view the text of this email, click here.

Alternative Fall Break Applications Available

TeamVOLS has held Alternative Break community service trips for UT students for over fifteen years. Team members are chosen through an application and interview process. During these trips, students give up their time to serve others in a new community. TeamVOLS has increased these trips to three Alternative Fall Break trips and two Alternative Spring Break trips. Alternative Fall Break applications for UT students will be available online until Friday, August 26. Click here for the application and more information.

Student Football Tickets On Sale

Students should go to http://bigorangetix.utk.edu for information on student football tickets and guest ticket opportunities. The claim period for the UT vs. Montana game has begun. The Volunteers open up the home football season on Saturday, September 3 at 6:00 PM

UT Athletics Student Rewards Program

Encourage your student to sign up for the Student Rewards Program. Students will earn awesome prizes just by attending designated UT athletic events. The program is completely free and students can sign up online at http://www.utstudentrewards.com. GO VOLS!

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center is a resource for students in need of personal counseling or to simply relieve stress. These services are offered free of charge to students and walk-in hours are Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM-3:30 PM. Transfer Student Career Programming

All transfer students are invited to drop by Career Services between 3:00 and 5:00 PM on Monday, August 29. This event is a way for transfer students to find out next steps they can take to meet their career goals and learn about departmental resources for internship and full-time job searches or major and career planning. Teaching Program Through VolsTeach

Did you know that there is a growing need for Math and Science teachers in Tennessee? VolsTeach is helping to fill this need with an Interdisciplinary program that allows Math and Science majors to graduate in four years with a degree in their field as well as a secondary education license. Through this program, your student can have more career options after graduation. Career Services is your student's first stop for all things career-related. They provide career counseling, career exploration classes and resources to help your student choose a major and career and identify part-time jobs, internships and full-time positions through the HIRE-A-VOL system. SGA Opportunities for Students

Is your student looking to get inVOLved on campus? Student Government Association is an excellent way! Currently, both Student Services and Freshman Council are accepting applications for new members. The Student Services branch is comprised of nine committees that focus on the many facets of university life. Freshman Council works year round on legislative issues concerning the freshman. VolCard and Dining Dollar Deposits

The VolCard Account is a debit account on your student's VolCard that may be used to purchase food at all Campus Dining facilities, snacks and beverages from selected soft drink and vending machines on campus, parking hang tags, VolPrinting, items at the UT Bookstore, and to pay for laundry facilities in the residence halls. Dining Dollars can only be purchased for students currently enrolled in any meal plan program. Dining Dollars can be used at ANY Campus Dining location, including convenience and grocery stores.

If you would like to add money to your student's VolCard Account or Dining Dollars, you can do so online. To add money for your student, click here, follow the onscreen prompts, and choose whether you are adding money to an VolCard Account or Dining Dollars.

Letter from Coach Pat Summitt

On Tuesday, August 23 Lady Vols Basketball Coach Pat Summitt shared with the University of Tennessee community that she has been diagnosed with early onset dementia ("Alzheimer's Type"). With the support of Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek and Athletics Director Joan Cronan as well as her coaching staff, she has said that she will continue to coach the Lady Vols. Welcome Week

Members of the class of 2015 had the chance to experience beloved University of Tennessee traditions their first week on campus. Dozens of students spray-painted their names on The Rock as part of the festivities. They also ran through the "T" at Neyland Stadium and paused for a photo-op on the turf.
