Dear New Graduates, Alumni, and Friends:
Below you will read about the call for nominations for officers of the newly formed SIS Alumni Society. This is an exciting time to be part of the team that will help SIS move to a new level of success in community engagement, fundraising
and academic achievement. I am personally asking you take interest in the election of our Alumni Society officers. First, by submitting your nominations, including self-nominations for any of the elected positions. And second by voting once the ballot has
been established. In particular I am hopeful that newly minted holders of the SIS graduate degree will step up to the plate and submit your self-nomination for one of the elected members-at-large positions. I look forward to your support and participation.

Newly Formed Alumni Society of the School of Information Sciences, University of Tennessee Seeks Board Nominations
Knoxville, TN, August 16, 2011:
The next step in the formation of the School of Information Sciences (SIS) Alumni Society is to collect nominations for the Executive Board and Officers from those who fit the criteria of membership eligibility—graduates of the SIS program. The purposes
of the SIS Alumni Society are as follows:
1. To stimulate continued interest in the School of Information Sciences among its alumni;
2. To promote support for the School of Information Sciences and the University of Tennessee by SIS alumni;
3. To encourage professional and social interaction among alumni, faculty and students of the School of Information Sciences.
The executive board will be composed of the following positions: President, Vice-President (President-elect), Secretary, and four members-at-large. The duties for each role are described below:
1. The president shall preside at all proceedings of the society, plan the program of activity for the year, appoint committees as appropriate,
and assume any other duties as necessary.
2. The vice-president/president-elect shall act in the absence of the president and shall automatically assume the duties of the president
for the following term of office.
3. The secretary shall keep records of all the proceedings of the society.
4. Members-at-large shall represent the general alumni membership.
5. The president, vice-president/president-elect, secretary, four members-at-large, and the liaison from the SIS Advisory Board shall be the
voting members of the Executive Board.
6. The immediate past president and the Director of the School or his/her representative shall be ex-officio non-voting members.
After careful consideration, please submit your nomination by completing the nomination ballot. The following are the nomination process steps.
1.
SIS eligible members will nominate candidates for the board by completing the on-line ballot.
2.
The ballot can be found at
http://www.sis.utk.edu/webform/sis-alumni-society-board-nominations
3.
Completed ballots should be submitted online no later than September 15, 2011.
4.
To validate each ballot and ensure that only one ballot per person is submitted from only eligible members, the ballots must include the name and graduation year of the person casting the ballot.
5.
Collection of ballots will end at 5 PM EDT September 15, 2011.
