Typical work assignments include:
 
·         Identifying metadata and descriptive information about records
maintained by House and Senate committees before they are transferred to the
Center.

·         Assisting the Assistant Director and House and Senate Archivists
in evaluating metadata and descriptive information about
Congressionally-held official records and advising on the transfer,
preservation, description, and methods and means of providing access to
information about those records throughout their lifecycles.

·         Preparing archival series level descriptions utilizing metadata
standards, including the standards used in the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).

·         Evaluating and implementing emerging information technologies and
standards-based methods to ensure efficient and effective delivery of
information to users. 

·         Facilitating the development of appropriate metadata standards for
congressional records by applying and evaluating the utility of existing
metadata standards.

·         Planning and directing the process to convert existing finding aid
information into an archival management system that will feed into the
Archival Research Catalog (ARC).

·         Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of trends and techniques involved
in creating dynamic online finding aids. 

·         Advising the Assistant Director on presentation options,
appropriate levels of description, and special requirements of data
collection for maintaining effective online tools to provide access to the
Center’s holdings.

·         Recommending protective measures and corrective actions for
at-risk textual and electronic records in all stages of the lifecycle. 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level that has
included: preparing archival series level description utilizing metadata
standards, creating online finding aids, using archival management systems,
and applying archival principles (such as accessioning, arrangement,
preservation, or description of archival records).

You may qualify for the GS-11 level if you have a Ph.D. or equivalent
doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate
education above the master's degree from a United States accredited college
or university leading to a degree in a related field of study that has
demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of
the position.

     
HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

metadata standards used in the archival description of textual and
electronic records; knowledge of the preparation of series level
descriptions for an online public access system; knowledge of information,
standards, and technologies relevant to the lifecycle of textual and
electronic records, access methods, and archival management systems; ability
to work in a team environment; and ability to create, execute, and modify a
work plan and measure and report results.
