FYI. SLA leadership gurus Ulla de Stricker & Jill Hurst-Wahl have teamed up to create a handbook for those seeking a job for the first time and/or cohorts looking for a more professional position. I haven't read the book yet, but since I know these ladies personally from the Special Libraries Association, it warms my heart to see them working together. Maybe the Tennessee Libraries journal will send me on a special mission to review this text and I'll give it a more thorough review in the future. For now, check out what others are saying in a message from Ulla below.

"That all of us are here for a very very short time.
And in that time we're here, there really isn't any difference
between any of us, if we take time out to understand each other.
The question is 'Do I know who you are? Do you know who I am?
And if we care for each other.' If we do, we can turn the world around."
- Harry Belafonte, from Ep. 314 of The Muppet Show

Here you are:

One key point we generally stress is that the book is not a “how to get a job” recipe. It advises on how to succeed and achieve professional fulfillment in a career. The book addresses the “stuff there wasn’t time for” in school – political savvy and negotiating for compensation for starters.

 Just so you know - the very first review in FUMSI (listed on the Facebook page shown below) questioned why we needed to tell new professionals about attire/grooming and money. Hmmm … we did so because we have seen what lack of attention to those aspects can cause!
