We Appreciate Your Feedback!Thank you to the more than 400 families who have already completed the Parents Association Member Assessment. This assessment is an important tool we use to gain valuable feedback from you, our members! This will be your FINAL opportunity to complete this five minute survey! If you have been a member for at least one year, click here to provide your feedback. Make Plans for Fall Family WeekendMake your family tradition a Tennessee Tradition on September 9-11, 2011! There will be plenty of fun, entertainment and exciting events throughout the weekend, including the annual Silent Auction and the football game against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Registration for Family Weekend begins August 1st! We Need Your Help with Silent Auction!The Silent Auction, held during Family Weekend, is a fundraiser for the Parents & Families Fund, which provides student scholarships and grants for university programs that could benefit your student! If you have donation ideas for the Silent Auction, please email [log in to unmask] with your potential donation information. So far, we have 30 items that have been donated! First Year Studies Course InformationFreshman students entering this fall should have recently received an email containing information about completing the online course FYS 100: The Volunteer Connection, which all first-year students are required to take. For more information on FYS courses, click here. How to Purchase a Parking PermitParking permits for the fall and spring semesters are available for purchase online for currently enrolled and recently admitted students. Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and are available for commuters and non-commuters. Have vehicle information, license plate number and registration expiration date ready when ordering. Click here to purchase a parking permit. Teacher Career Opportunities through VolsTeachDid you know that there is a growing need for Math and Science teachers in Tennessee? VolsTeach is helping to fill this need with an Interdisciplinary program that allows Math and Science majors to graduate in four years with a degree in their field as well as a secondary education license. Parent Volunteer Opportunities at OrientationSummer Orientation sessions began last week, June 6, for all the new students and their parents! New parents always enjoy being able to talk to current Parents Association members. If you are available and would like to volunteer at Summer Orientation from 11:15 AM - 1:00 PM in the University Center, please reply to this email or call the office. The dates we need volunteers are: June 27, 28, 29, 30 and July 6. We will be presenting a session about the Parents Association and would like to introduce you to the group of parents attending the Orientation session. If you are interested in volunteering, simply reply to this email.
New Dean of College of Arts and Sciences AppointedTheresa M. Lee has been named the new dean of the UT Knoxville College of Arts and Sciences. Following a nationwide search, Lee, who is chair of the University of Michigan Department of Psychology, will begin in Spring 2012. For more information, click here. Athletic Director Mike Hamilton ResignsLast week, UT Knoxville Athletic Director, Mike Hamilton, announced his resignation, which will be effective June 30, 2011. Hamilton has served as athletic director for eight years, and he has worked in the athletic department for 19 years. Director of Women's Athletics, Joan Cronan, will serve as Interim Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics until a permanent vice chancellor/director of athletics is named.
