Just a thought:  You may have checked this already, but the problem 
could possibility be driver related. You might verify that you have 
current/latest bluetooth drivers for your laptop.

Sorry, no particular recommendation on BT scanners, though. Never had a 
need to research/sell one. FWIW, though, I like Wasp barcode scanners in 
general. I've had good luck with them at my library clients. A quick 
check on their website tells me they do make a BT version for about $350 
retail: http://www.waspbarcode.com/scanners/wws500_barcode_scanner.asp   
I've never used one, however.
