Dominican Universityıs Graduate School of Library and Information Science
and Graduate School of Social Work have established a dual degree program.
Students enrolled in the program will complete a Master of Library and
Information Science (MLIS) and a Master of Social Work (MSW). One of only
two such accredited dual degree programs in the country, the MLIS/MSW degree
will bring awareness to the intersection between the library, community and
social work.

The purposes of this degree are to provide services for the improvement of
the well-being of individuals, families and communities through the
knowledge, values and skills of both disciplines. More and more libraries
are asked to meet the needs of their patrons and community members,
especially immigrant populations, and to deal with many social issues in the
community.

In the combined-degree program, the student is enrolled simultaneously in
both graduate schools and takes some coursework common to both programs. The
combined program allows students to complete work on two degrees in a
shorter time than if the degrees were pursued separately. Upon successful
completion of the programs, the student receives two distinct degrees.
