The School of Information Studies at the University of Ottawa is proud to announce that the first cohort of graduates from the Master of Information Studies (MIS) program will receive their diplomas at the 2011 spring convocation ceremony on Saturday, June 11, 2011. At this same convocation, Honourary Doctorates are being awarded to two key figures in the field of Library and Information Studies. Ingrid Parent is University of British Columbia chief librarian and president-elect of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. She has held a number of positions in the Canadian federal government, and has worked with international bodies such as UNESCO. The future of libraries in the digital age is a focus of her work. Lise Bissonnette joined the influential Quebec newspaper Le Devoir in 1974, serving as editorialist, editor-in-chief and publisher, and establishing herself as a leading opinion maker. After leaving Le Devoir, she oversaw the creation of Quebec’s Bibliothèque et Archives nationales and the Grande Bibliothèque, an ultramodern library in Montreal. Au même cérémonie de collation des grades, les Doctorats honorifiques seront attribués aux deux professionnelles du domaine des sciences de l’information. Ingrid Parent est bibliothécaire en chef de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique et présidente désignée de l’International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. Elle a occupé divers postes au gouvernement fédéral du Canada et travaillé auprès d’organismes internationaux comme l’UNESCO. Elle s’intéresse particulièrement à l’avenir des bibliothèques à l’ère numérique. Lise Bissonnette arrive au journal Le Devoir en 1974, où elle se démarquera comme éditorialiste, rédactrice en chef et directrice en plus de s’imposer comme voix influente sur la place publique. Après son départ du quotidien, elle orchestre la création de Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec et de l’ultramoderne Grande Bibliothèque de Montréal.
