Published Materials Division Head, South Caroliniana Library, University

Reporting to Director of South Caroliniana Library, University of South
Carolina, this position is responsible for the operation of South
Caroliniana Library's Published Materials Division, including
supervising full-time staff and student assistants; providing reference
service in person, by telephone, mail and e-mail to students, faculty
and outside researchers, using traditional print sources and electronic
tools; providing course-based instruction on resources and research
strategies; maintaining the integrity of collection by supervising
processing, preservation, arrangement, binding, copying, and ILL
services; actively participating with the Director and Library special
committees in developing new services and policies, planning and
budgeting, and collection development; Saturday service shared among
staff.
Qualifications Required: MLS or equivalent advanced degree in academic
field such as American history or Southern studies; strong experience
with reference duties; successful supervisory experience; commitment to
professional service and scholarship; ability to work as team member and
commitment to developing a working knowledge of the library's other
divisions: manuscripts, visual materials, oral history, University
archives, and micrographics; ability to function in and adapt to a
rapidly changing professional environment; writing experience sufficient
to prepare articles for the library's friends organization newsletter
and strong oral communication skills for interacting with researchers
and making presentations to academic classes. SLED background check is
required.
Preferred: Second masters in related field; strong experience with
online reference resources; knowledge of South Carolina history,
literature, and culture; familiarity with genealogical resources; prior
experience with working in a public service environment.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience; minimum $38,000.
Full-time, 12-month, unclassified, tenure-track, faculty status position
with the rank of Librarian. Benefits include medical, dental, state
retirement or optional retirement plan.
