Web Services Librarian

Memorial Library, Berry College (GA) seeks a creative, highly motivated professional who can assume a lead role in developing the library’s web-based services and integrating them with other campus information systems in support of the college’s liberal arts curricular mission. The librarian in this position works collaboratively with faculty, library staff, and other campus IT professionals to develop web content and design strategies that effectively serve the research, teaching, and learning needs of the academic community at Berry. Position also includes reference, instructional, and collection development responsibilities. Full-time, 10-month appointment reporting to the Head of Public and Instructional Services. Projected start date is July, 2011.

Responsibilities:

• Provide primary support for library ’s web presence, including oversight of current content and design
• Coordinate library’s web committee to foster staff-wide support, involvement, and content contributions to the library’s web presence
• Monitor and incorporate best practices in academic library web sites; anticipate trends in web-based services
• Provide guidance for leverage and incorporation of social media to enhance instructional and communication reach of the library’s web presence
• Identify applications and approaches for effective delivery of library resources and services to library users via their mobile devices
• Work collaboratively with other campus information technology professionals to integrate the library’s web services into the course management system and the campus web site
• Participate in the library’s instructional services program by creating web-based instructional tools such as interactive tutorials and streaming videos
• Participate in the library’s delivery of reference and research services to faculty and students
• Participate in the training, supervision, and mentoring of public services student workers
• Serve as collection development liaison to selected academic departments

Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS; enthusiasm and passion for meeting the needs of library users; high comfort level with emerging technologies, social networking tools, and mobile applications; demonstrated proficiency with web development skills such as markup languages and usability assessment; excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
