Dr. Sandra Hirsh, director of the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at San Jose State University, is pleased to announce that Dr. Ken Haycock has accepted her invitation to coordinate two important strategic initiatives for the School.

Haycock, a former director of the School and professor emeritus, will coordinate the School’s new Center for Information Research & Innovation.  The new Center will bring together research faculty, doctoral students, graduate research assistants, grant writers, and industry and community partners in developing, conducting, and disseminating the results of research and evaluation contracts and projects.

Haycock will also coordinate the School’s Executive MLIS program, designed for experienced library leaders.  The Executive MLIS program was launched in 2005 and is unique in the nation, with its cohort model focused on senior library managers who do not hold the MLIS degree.  Haycock will draw on feedback from current Executive MLIS students and alumni to enhance the program model, including the transition to a fully online delivery model.  SLIS will be accepting applications for the enhanced Executive MLIS program in Fall 2012.

As professor emeritus, Haycock continues to teach graduate courses in the School’s MLIS program, including a seminar in library management.  He also supervises students in the San Jose Gateway PhD program. 

Additionally, Haycock is professor emeritus and former director at the University of British Columbia.  For 2010-2011 he was Follett Chair in Library and Information Science at Dominican University.  During 2010, he received awards from the American Library Association (ALA) and the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) for his contributions to graduate education.  He is incoming chair of the ALA Committee on Accreditation.

Haycock will continue to reside in Vancouver, British Columbia.
