THE POSITION:
This position in the Metro Public Library provides leadership and expertise in evaluating and selecting information resources in all formats; in bringing awareness of information issues into collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and others. Acts as the lead library technology contact with Metro Schools Must have the ability to analyze school curriculum requirements and identify and develop collections that meet those requirements.  Ability to communicate effectively with school and library administrators to align library needs and instructional goals, to plan appropriate actions, and follow up with their implementation. 

There may be some walking, standing, bending, lifting objects that weigh 20-50 lbs.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

·         Installs, troubleshoots and maintains information technology applications hardware and software related to joint projects with Metro schools

·         Meets with sales vendors and reviews new products

·         Reviews and selects library material in all formats

·         Adheres to budgetary restrictions and prepares budget reports

·         Communicates with school library media specialists and administrators

·         Assists in the maintenance and weeding of library collections

·         Trains professional and paraprofessional staff on collection maintenance

·         Prepares bibliographies

·         Maintains affiliations with professional library organizations

·         Performs administrative duties as required

·         Reads reports and performs statistical analysis as required

·         Writes reports, letters, and memos

·         Attends meetings and participates on committees as required

·         May perform clerical and paraprofessional duties as assigned

·         Keeps abreast of new trends in collection development and acquisitions

·         Adheres to library Customer Service Guidelines

·         Assists with moving materials between locations as well as adding and withdrawing preview and gift materials from the system

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree  in Library Science from an accredited college or university, eligibility for Tennessee State Certification as a School Library Media Specialist, and 2 years of related professional experience.    Valid “Class D” Driver’s License

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

·         Knowledge of MNPS automated collection development processes

·         School library media experience

·         Previous professional experience in a high School setting

·         Background in instructional technology

·         Background in curriculum development

·         Knowledge of MS Word and Excel applications
