POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Residency Interest Group (RIG) is looking for a web editor beginning in June 2011. This is a two year volunteer position that would be a great way for new librarians to get experience in leadership, web editing, and networking with other new librarians and residents.

 

The web editor is responsible for creating original content and maintaining the Residency Interest Group (RIG) website. Specific duties include writing articles, creating podcast interviews, posting residency opportunities, and updating and archiving resident biographies. The web editor also oversees the work of the student editors and reviews, selects, and edits submissions by guest authors. Article topics should be relevant to current library science students, new graduates, and early career librarians. The editor should also work with RIG officers to ensure that site content adheres to the group’s mission and long-term goals.

 

REQUIREMENTS

·         Received or working towards a graduate degree in library science

·         Familiarity with WordPress or a similar CMS

·         Proficiency in a photo editing software

·         Experience creating and uploading audio and/or video podcasts

·         Ability to write in both a scholarly (academic) and informal (blog) style, as required

·         Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

 

NOTE: You do not have to be a library resident to apply.

 

ABOUT RIG

The charge of the Residency Interest Group is to support the creation, implementation, management, and promotion of library residency programs through:

·         the centralization of information regarding program availability

·         the creation of core competencies, evaluation, and assessment standards; and

·         the overall advancement of the quality of resident education through inter-collegiate collaboration

 

The interest group is always willing and open to accepting student volunteers who would like to contribute in other capacities.
