   Drexel University Libraries seeks a creative, energetic librarian
to lead functions involving the planning and use of metadata to aid
discovery and evaluation of resources by our users, as well as
facilitate the exposure of Drexel University-created data and metadata
to learners and researchers everywhere.  The new Head of Metadata
Services will join a library engaged in pursuing collaborations with
academics, administrators, and other learning experts to support and
better understand student learning and develop a learning-centered
framework of resources, spaces, and services.  Also importantly,
growing library academic partnerships with faculty research, teaching,
and scholarship will increasingly uncover opportunities to provide key
library-based expertise on information organization, description, and
analysis expertise in support of faculty efforts. A growing culture of
evidence-based management within the Libraries echoes Drexel
University’s emphasis on assessment; service quality efforts are being
introduced throughout the Libraries’ organization to improve services
and efficiency.

Position Description: Under the direction of the Director, Library
Services & Quality Improvement, the Head of Metadata Services will:
•Lead and advise the Libraries’ efforts in planning, implementation,
use, and assessment of metadata content used in innovative tools,
technologies, and services involving a variety of formats, including
books and rare books, dissertations, theses, photographs, art slides,
digital images, data sets, printed texts, manuscripts, audio-visual
material and three-dimensional objects

•Assist the Director, Library Services & Quality Improvement in
planning, organizing, managing, and assessing the Libraries’ efforts
in providing and improving excellent service quality.
•Facilitate the exposure of Drexel University research data to an
international audience, working closely with faculty researchers and
principal investigators to assist in the creation of metadata.  Play a
role in outreach and liaison work within the campus and community as
led by our Director, Library Academic Partnerships.

•Consult within the Libraries and the University regarding metadata,
workflows, and discovery of resources.
•Lead the day-to-day functions of resource description and processing
for the Libraries, including quality control of metadata, helping
acquire bibliographic records from vendors, oversee/manage authorities
work, manage a review of and influence the selection of contracted
work, and maintain responsiveness to local requests and needs.

•Participate in the Libraries’ managerial leadership to evaluate and
coordinate functional activities.
•Participate in Service Quality improvement projects.
•Engage in University and professional activities, including service,
research, presentations, and/or publication.

•Supervise 2 FTE paraprofessional and clerical staff and manage a
program including an additional 1.25 FTE staff.
•Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
•4 or more years successful managerial leadership experience (required)

•ALA accredited MSLIS or other relevant graduate degree (required)
•Knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards and schema such as
MARC,  XML, EAD, Dublin Core, METS, MODS, LCSH, MeSH, TGM I, NAF, AAT;
as well as authority records, AACR2 and RDA; and classification schema
such as LCC and NLMC (required)

•Demonstrated success with project management and workflows (required)
•Excellent written and oral communication skills (required)
•Experience working in a collaborative environment, including working
with people with diverse backgrounds (required)

•Demonstrated excellent experience in supervision (required)
•Familiarity with digitization technology and best practices (highly desired)
•Knowledge of bibliographic utilities including OCLC and integrated
library systems—Millennium preferred (highly desired)

Santa Ana College is developing a pool of qualified applicants for
part-time and substitute teaching opportunities in this discipline:
Library Technology

Seeking a part-time instructor to teach

Library Technology 110, "Technical Services"

START DATE:  Fall 2011 (Semester begins August 22, 2011)

Course is to be taught on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-9:10pm

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach Library Technology 110, Technical Services.
Course introduces students to fundamentals of acquisitions, basic
theories, principles and concepts of bibliographic control, including
descriptive cataloging, classification, subject analysis, authority
control and bibliographic maintenance. Emphasis placed on cataloging
standards, MARC21 formats, original and copy cataloging and online
bibliographic utility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Applicants must meet one of the following):
Possess from an accredited institution: A Bachelor's degree or
equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience
directly related to the faculty member's assignment, OR an Associate
degree, or equivalent foreign degree plus six years of professional
experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment, OR

Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing
service in the discipline, OR the equivalent (applicants not meeting
the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies
Section in the application form.)



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience, a Master's in Library
Science or Library and Information Science, recent working or teaching
experience in library field with Technical Services (Acquisitions and

Cataloging), demonstrated knowledge of current cataloging standards,
trends and practices and demonstrated proficiency in the use of
cataloging tools, effective verbal and written communication skills
and a working knowledge of, and experience with, student learning

outcomes and assessment.
