The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) of The Catholic University of America is proud and honored to announce that Drs. Sung Un Kim, Sue Yeon Syn, and Jane Zhang have joined our stellar faculty as Assistant Professors in the 2010-2011 Academic Year.
 
Dr. Sung Un Kim has been providing strong leadership in the School Library Media program since fall 2010. Dr. Kim has a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from Rutgers University. She received her M.A. and B.A. from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Her dissertation was entitled, "The Information Seeking and Use of English Language Learners in a High School Setting.” Her research focuses on the information behavior of students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and instructional technologies in various learning contexts. At SLIS, Dr. Kim teaches The School Library Media Center and Media Services while working closely with school librarian communities in Washington D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
 
Dr. Sue Yeon Syn has been contributing to the information organization curriculum at SLIS since spring 2011. She earned her Ph.D. in Information Science from University of Pittsburgh, and M.A. from University of Library and Information Science, Tsukuba, Japan. Her dissertation was entitled “Generation of Classificatory Metadata For Web Resources Using Social Tags” Her research interests focus on social media and social informatics, user involvement in information organization and generation, health informatics, and personal digital archiving. At SLIS, Dr. Syn teaches Organization of Information.
 
Dr. Jane Zhang has been anchoring the archives program at SLIS since spring 2011. She earned her PhD in Library and Information Science (Archival Concentration) from Simmons College and graduated from the joint master program of MAS/MLIS, School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of British Columbia, Canada. Her dissertation was entitled "The Principle of Original Order and the Organization and Representation of Digital Archives." Dr. Zhang’s teaching and research areas include archival theory and practice, electronic records management, and digital archival representation. She worked as a records and archival professional in Canada and the United States for more than nine years and taught as an adjunct faculty at Simmons College before assuming her current position as an assistant professor at Catholic University. At SLIS, Dr. Zhang teaches Electronic Records Management and archives management, and participates in the development of the Cultural Heritage Information Management (CHIM) program.
