INSTRUCTOR

The School of Library & Information Studies, College of Communication & Information Sciences, The University of Alabama, invites applications and nominations for instructor for a three-year renewable contract, beginning as early as August 2011. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach six courses per academic year, to advise graduate students, and to participate in the life of the school. Instructors may, but are not obligated, to have a research/publication agenda. All faculty members provide online, on-campus, and off-site face-to-face instruction. Instructors must have 18 semester hours beyond the Master's degree; substantial progress toward a doctorate is desirable. Instructors will be eligible to apply for tenure leading positions as they become available and as individual qualifications match departmental needs.


Preference will be given to applicants with interests in one or more of the following areas:

*     Information & reference services, including bibliography, digital reference, assessment, and the evaluation of reference and information services;

*     Practice and management of digital and material culture in areas such as preservation and conservation, special collections and digitization.


Work history in a library or another information environment, teaching, research assistance, and other related experiences are desirable.


The School, with 14 faculty members, offers an ALA-accredited Master's program, an MFA program in the book arts, and doctoral courses that contribute to a multidisciplinary doctorate in communication and information sciences. An undergraduate course sequence in information studies is also offered. The School is selective in admissions for all programs and ranks in the top 25 programs in North America.
