Title:  Health Sciences Educational Technology Librarian, Librarian I

 

Locations:  Michigan State University Libraries, Main Library, East Lansing MI and College of Human Medicine, Secchia Center, Grand Rapids MI

 

Description:  Reporting to the MSU Libraries’ Health Sciences Coordinator, the Health Sciences Educational Technology Librarian for MSU’s College of Human Medicine will collaborate with faculty and staff in the college and in the Libraries to help develop digital and multimedia curricular resources to support medical education.  Responsibilities will include: consulting on copyright and licensing issues for the use of bibliographic and image digital resources; providing training and support for educational technology software, information capture and management applications, and medical information resources; developing web based tutorials; and providing liaison services for faculty, staff, and students at the College of Human Medicine Grand Rapids location.  The librarian will be expected to regularly travel between the East Lansing and Grand Rapids locations.  Other appropriate duties as assigned.

 

Librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuous appointment system.

 

Qualifications:  Required:  Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program; familiarity and aptitude with current technologies; knowledge or background in health sciences information (coursework, degree, or practical experience); excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students and staff; ability to prioritize and balance various unit needs; preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment; capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.

 

Desired:  Experience with course management software (Moodle, Angel, or the like); experience in developing web based tutorials.

 

Campus, College and Libraries:  The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Secchia Center is located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It represents the physical expansion of MSU's College of Human Medicine educational program to West Michigan.  The College of Human Medicine is a community-based medical school, currently educates more than 600 medical students, and is ranked among the nation’s top 25 medical schools in primary care by U.S. News & World Report. The Michigan State University Libraries is headquartered on MSU’s East Lansing campus and has five health science librarians that serve four health colleges.  The Main Library and 5 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 5 million volumes and serve more than 4,900 faculty, 36,000 undergraduates and 11,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres.

 

Compensation:  Minimum $46,000 plus travel allowance.  MSU provides generous fringe benefits.
