For our client, Chelsea 24, a dynamic new gallery, we are seeking a Gallery
Director. Launching this fall in a fully renovated historic Chelsea space
directly adjacent to the High Line, Chelsea 24’s premiere exhibition,
“Double Crescent” by well-known curator Dan Cameron, will feature artists
from Istanbul and New Orleans. Programming will include a focus on
contemporary Turkish and international art. The successful applicant will
manage all aspects of the gallery’s programming and sales and will assist
with business development and strategic planning. The applicant will
strategize sales; create and oversee long-term client relationships;
initiate and oversee new publicity campaigns; oversee participation in Art
Fairs; identify artists for the gallery; build relationships with curators,
museums and other organizations for exhibitions and special programming
involving gallery artists; represent the gallery at public functions and
events; other duties as necessary. The ideal candidate will have at least
5-7 years experience, preferably with a top New York gallery or auction
house, and comprehensive knowledge of international contemporary art. BA
required: outstanding organizational, communications and networking skills

Brief synopsis:



Central University Libraries at Southern Methodist University seeks a
strong, creative and energetic leader to serve as Director of the Hamon Arts
Library. Hamon is located within and serves students, faculty and staff of
SMU's exciting Meadows School of the Arts, which aims to educate visionary
artists, scholars, and arts and communications professionals prepared to
transform local and global society. The Hamon Arts Library includes
extensive online and print holdings relating to the visual and performing
arts, as well as the Jerry Bywaters Special Collections Wing and the G.
William Jones Film and Video Collection.

    The Director of the Hamon Arts Library will provide leadership and
expertise in developing programs for effective and innovative delivery of
collections and services to faculty, staff and students in Meadows. The
position directly supervises three professional subject specialists who,
with the Director, provide collection development, reference and
instructional services for Meadows departments; two curators of special
collections; and three library specialists.

    The position reports to the Assistant Dean for Scholarly Resources and
Research Services for Central University Libraries.  Central University

Dear Autocat readers,

Potomac Technical Processing Librarians (PTPL), a regional affiliate
of  the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, is a
 professional organization for technical services librarians in
Virginia,  Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Each year we offer
a  scholarship to Library School students, details of which are in the
 announcement below.  Please forward as appropriate.

PTPL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT 2011

Potomac  Technical Processing Librarians (PTPL) announces the
availability of  two $1,000 scholarships for future librarians
interested in technical services.  Students living  or working in the
PTPL membership region (DC, Maryland, Virginia) and  who are currently
enrolled in an ALA-accredited Library and/or  Information Science
program, including distance education programs, are invited to apply.

Criteria Requirements for the Award:

1.     The applicant must be a full or part-time student in a Library
and/or Information Science program at the Master’s level and have
completed at least one three-hour credit course.

2.    The applicant must  demonstrate an interest in library technical
services through  employment, course of study, or research interests.
Technical services is work "…dedicated to acquisition, identification,
cataloging,  classification, and preservation of all kinds of library

Description of Responsibilities: Applications are invited for a full time

metadata standards & practices. Demonstrated knowledge & experience with
Collection Management principles, protocols & current trends. Demonstrated
familiarity of & performance with integrated library management systems,
SirsiDynix preferred. Minimum two years appropriate cataloging experience,
academic or health sciences library preferred.
