Hey guys,
After speaking with Benjy, the UTOP Director, this afternoon I found out that we cannot access the climbing equipment for top roping or rapelling, unless a UTOP staff member is able to lead the climbing portion of our trip. This is due to an incident several years ago that has caused liability issues. However, at the time, we do not have any UTCH members that are UTOP staff that are able to go with us this weekend.
To my knowledge, it is perfectly acceptable to pick up some crash pads for bouldering, so if you want to do any of that you need to pick up that equipment Friday.
Also, if you need any equipment from UTOP for camping, hiking, caving (headlamps), etc. just go by there Friday before 5:30 if you can (they close at 6) to pick up your equipment.
Please get in tough with Isaac about transportation; I am out of town at a student conference so it will be hard to get a hold of me. Isaac sent out an email before me about this trip. It has an attachment with the trip roster with everyone's contact info, so figure out who you want to carpool with and let Isaac know your plan.
Jared & Chase, as I mentioned at the meeting, you two are the only drivers for this trip that have been approved to get reimbursed through university funding, so please drive if at all possible. To anyone else that needs to drive, your gas will have to come out of our dues account, which is good to avoid if possible. To everyone driving, please fill up your gas tank here in Knoxville, then save all of the gas receipts from where you fill up during the trip; make sure you fill up at least when you get back to Knoxville. All gas receipts need to be given to me or Isaac by Sunday evening, or Monday at the latest.

I would like to leave Knoxville early in the day on Friday if we could. No one at meeting was willing to do this. If you would like to depart Knoxville around or before 2-3pm tomorrow please give me a call at 615-519-0853 If no one is willing to go Friday then we can all leave as one big group Saturday morning, but we would have to depart at around 7am in order to make room for all the stuff I want to do.
Itinerary:
The only thing I scheduled was to be in PettyJohn’s cave at 10am Saturday. The rest is up in the air.
If you want to climb, rappel, whatever: please pick the gear up yourself and we will do it. I don’t know enough about climbing to take people myself. But Rocktown is one heck of a playground and I would like to climb there. No matter what we will not be bored, this is an awesome trip, but the more the merrier.
What to bring:
· Plenty of food
· Plenty of water (primitive site with no water/bathrooms)
· Sleeping bag
· Sleeping pad
· Tent (we only need about two big ones)
· Headlamp
· Flashlight
· Backup flashlight
· Backup backup flashlight
· Spare batteries
· Knee pads and gloves if available
· Clothes you don’t mind getting covered in bat sh!t
· Toiletries
· Camera to capture precious memories
I recommend buying groceries at the Wal-mart in LaFayette on the way in (less taxes and cheaper stuff). I will have a cooler but space is limited so if you have one please bring it.
Again, please contact me if you are available to leave tomorrow afternoon. If you cannot leave then you need to make arrangements to leave late that day or Saturday morning.
Once everyone emails me back who is going, I can work with them to fill the cars up.
