The San Jose Gateway PhD Program, offered through a partnership between the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is pleased to announce that QUT was recently ranked as one of Australia’s top 10 research institutions.  In addition, QUT’s program in Library and Information Studies received an impressive rating of 4 (out of 5) by the Australian Research Council, indicating that the program is “above world standard.”

The San Jose Gateway PhD Program, launched in 2008, is a unique part-time doctoral program delivered through distance learning, with short residencies in San Jose and other U.S. locations.  The program is designed to prepare individuals for research, faculty, and leadership positions in Library and Information Science (LIS).  Doctoral students receive guidance and one-on-one mentoring from faculty who are award-winning scholars and educators, representing two continents and a truly international perspective.

Current students in the San Jose Gateway PhD program are conducting research in the following areas:  information sharing practices for virtual teams, information retrieval, information use, information practices in education, archival research and practice, and information organization management (e.g., funding, performance metrics, and leadership training).  Other opportunities for future doctoral student research include information systems and technologies, library and information science education, teacher-librarianship, and youth services.
