FACULTY POSITION. CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA Clinical Assistant Professor: School Library Media The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) of The Catholic University of America invites applications for a non-tenure track clinical assistant professor position that will begin in summer or fall 2011. We seek an energetic individual with expertise in school library media to assist in the expansion of the School Library Media program (SLM). Candidates with a master’s degree in library and information science (LIS) and substantial professional experience will be considered. An earned doctoral degree in library and information science (LIS) or a closely related field is desirable. Candidates must be able to teach one or more of the SLIS core courses: Organization of Information, Information Sources and Services, Information Systems in Libraries and Information Centers, and Libraries and Information in Society (http://slis.cua.edu/courses/courses.cfm). Ability to teach SLM courses and mentor SLM students is critical. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching ability, and the ability to teach in blended format is desirable. In addition to teaching core courses, the finalist will teach SLM courses, advise SLM students, and coordinate practicums. The finalist will also be responsible for maintaining specialized licensure and accreditation for the SLM program. This will include data collection and reporting, rubrics development, and assessments for certified school library media specialists. The appointee will develop and maintain close ties with the field of school library media in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia. The appointee will also work collaboratively with the faculty to ensure the SLM program continues to be AASL and ALA accredited. SLIS offers courses in the District of Columbia (D.C.), Maryland, and Virginia, and all faculty members are required to teach at least one course off campus per academic year. The teaching load of the clinical professor is six courses per year; substantial administrative responsibilities will be taken into account to reduce the six-course teaching load. Summer teaching is optional. An ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science with certification as a School Library Media Specialist is required. Previous experience with AASL, ALA, or NCATE accreditation and licensure issues is highly desirable.
