His Excellency, Samir Shakir Mahmood Sumaida'ie, is Iraq’s ambassador to the United States since 2006. Prior to this appointment, he
was named Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in July 2004. Ambassador
Sumaida'ie previously served as the Minister of Interior in Baghdad, managed a domestic security force of over 120,000
and worked towards reconstituting and reorganizing the Ministry and its
operations. Ambassador Sumaida'ie also served as a member of Governing Council (GC) in Iraq. In the GC,
he was Chairman of the Media Committee, and in that role he helped found the
Iraqi Telecoms and Media Commission and the Public Broadcasting Institution. For more information on Ambassador Sumaida’ie,
