POSITION:  MATERIAL PROCESSOR – (3 Openings) Annual Salary: $22,318.40 - $32,364.80;

                      Bi-weekly: $858.40 - $1,244.80   Public Services & Neighborhoods/Library     J.O. #11-015

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Material Services Manager to process, preserve, conserve, and maintain books, serials, sound recordings, audiovisual materials, computer software, and other material formats through the use of various liquids and adhesives. Utilizes computer to retrieve email requests for maintaining and/or repairing various library materials. Verifies item status and edits accordingly. Binds library items with use of a binding machine and bladed instruments. Checks item status, follows bindery procedures, removes items from the collection, adds copies to the collection, and alters various data fields in the records. Applies Mylar jackets with use of glue and tape.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1.              May assist with mending, repairing, and weeding library materials at other library locations.

2.              Participates in special projects as assigned. 

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both, verbally and in writing with the Material Services Manager, co-workers, and internal customers. Must be able to operate computer and all basic office and special equipment, including bladed implements and binding machine. Requires lengthy periods of sitting, stooping, bending, stretching, and pushing cartloads of materials up to 40 lbs and carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs of books. Requires the ability to perform repetitive actions utilizing hand and eye coordination. 

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a library environment. Occasional travel within Shelby County to weed materials at various library branches. Works with potentially hazardous cleaning products and adhesives for cleaning library materials. May be exposed to fumes from cleaning products.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) year of general work experience preferably in the repair/preservation of materials; or any combination of training or experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience operating binding machinery or similar machinery preferred. Experience working with limited supervision also preferred.
