ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Library Support Services
Administrator to manage the overall administrative operations of Cataloging and Item Control. Provides direct supervision to departmental staff, including interviewing, training, evaluating performance, providing work direction, scheduling, and administering
discipline. Collaborates with other Support Services staff to maintain policies/procedures for cataloging by adhering to universally established rules set by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), Library of Congress, and previously established standards.
Communicates and provides input with Technical Services and other library agencies regarding cataloged materials and the overall collection development effort. Develops strategic goals in support of the library’s overall strategic plan. Utilizes various computer
programs in Microsoft Office to gather cataloging statistics and maintain employee productivity. Maintains and submits reports and administrative documentation for personnel activity and department procedures and practices, annual reports, statistical reports,
budget reports, etc. Initiates and participates in inter-department and system-wide collection development efforts (i.e., serving as leader, facilitator, or committee member). Participates in professional organizations and may travel to attend related conferences
that include the American Library Association, Public Library Association, Tennessee Library Association, and Memphis Area Library Council for professional development.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

Places or retrieves library materials, which may include bending, stooping, pushing cartloads weighing up to 40 lbs and lifting books weighing up to 25 lbs.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both, verbally and
in writing. Must be able to operate computer and all basic office equipment.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
Occasional travel to various library locations throughout Memphis and Shelby County to attend meetings, offer trainings, cover reference desk, assess the collection for cataloging purposes. May
travel out of town for professional conferences, trainings, and other meetings, as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
library school and two (2) years work experience with the Dewey system cataloging materials, Library of Congress subject headings, and authority control, or a related bachelor’s degree and three (3) years work experience with the Dewey system cataloging materials,
Library of Congress subject headings, and authority control, with one (1) of the three (3) years in a library management capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Knowledge of Superintendent
of Documents classification preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), and public access functions of SIRSI/Dynix and ILS preferred. Experience in a large public library technical services/cataloging area is also
