Museum Internship in Alaska

The Hammer Museum in Haines Alaska is recruiting for a 3-month internship
with a flexible start day from May to September 20011



The Hammer Museum is a non-profit, private entity and the world's only
museum dedicated to hammers. Its mission is to provide a view of the past
and a history of technology through the use of man's first tool. There are
over 1500 hammers on display, ranging from Roman times to the present.



BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Interns may work on one or more of the
following projects: cataloging and researching the museum collection, taking
digital photographs of artifacts; website development; assisting with an
inventory of the museum collection on a Past Perfect database; public
speaking, and newsletter development.



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

   - Strong writing, research and collections care skills.
   - Strong organizational, multitasking and people skills.
   - Computer skills, including PastPerfect database software and word
   processing or a desire to learn them.
   - Ability to work independently and on detailed tasks.
   - Knowledge of the history of technology a plus.
   - Degree or expected degree in history, education, museum studies,
   humanities or a related field.
   - An adventurous spirit.



COMPENSATION: The internship comes with a $100 per week stipend and basic
housing is provided.   Haines is a wonderful Alaskan community with a
population of around 2000 and a breathtaking landscape.

  Accokeek Foundation Fellowship in Public History Practice

*Description:*

In partnership with the National Park Service the Accokeek Foundation
stewards 200 acres of Piscataway Park in southern Prince George's County,
Maryland. The Foundation's annual African American Heritage Day celebrates
the rich history and culture of African Americans in this region in an
entertaining and educational program that features music, living history,
museum theater, food, panels and displays by area cultural organizations.
The Public History Fellow will help conceive the theme for the September 24,
2011 event, and will have primary responsibility for all aspects of planning
the event, including identifying and contacting potential presenters,
selecting vendors, dealing with event logistics, and working with Foundation
staff to market the event. This fellowship is an ideal opportunity for a
graduate student or post-grad who wants to work in the field of public
history and whose research focus is related to the African American
experience in the Maryland/DC/Virginia region.

Albertsons Library, Boise State University, invites applications for two
full-time 12-month, tenure-track Librarian/Assistant/Associate Professor
positions. The Librarians will participate in outreach and research
assistance as the liaison to academic departments and provide reference and
instructional services. These positions will report to the Head Instruction
and Research Services.

Responsibilities include:
