Middle School Librarian

Darlington School seeks a qualified candidate to be the Middle School Librarian who is committed to providing a child-centered learning environment that fosters creativity and encourages critical thinking and problem solving. Demonstrated experience in libraries and information literacy settings in a competitive, college preparatory or university setting is a must. This position will have the unique opportunity to work with the Library Services Department to grow and develop strong, child-centered library programs at all school levels. Candidates should be of the highest character and integrity and should be willing to commit to strengthening the programs and policies of Darlington School.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following experiences and/or qualifications:

• Willingness to model the distinct mission of Darlington School
• Must have an MLS from an accredited university
• Experience in cataloging, collection development, and overall library management of a middle school library are requirements
• Proficiency in the use of library automation system software and all Microsoft Office products. In addition, candidates must be able to troubleshoot and to assist students with questions pertaining to these products
• Ability and willingness to participate in school life outside of the library (ie. coaching, sponsoring clubs)
• A deep understanding and love for middle school adolescents and young adult literature
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability and willingness to work as a team player
• Comfort with on-going improvement and change
