Technical Services Librarian
Position Summary: Works collaboratively and independently to manage technical services functions including receiving and processing of new materials for addition to the collections and functions related to the growth, care and maintenance of the library collections including, but not limited to, materials processing, collection maintenance, de-selection and removal, transfer of materials between collections, binding/preservation, shelving and filing. Coordinates some functions with staff from other departments.  Serves as a resource person and trainer for Library staff.
Essential Functions:

 *   Responsible for collection management functions for the library.
 *   Manages all receiving activities including check-in and routing.
 *   Manages the transfer of materials between library collections.
 *   Manages the de-selection and withdrawal of materials form the library collections based on decisions and policies of the Collection Development Group.
 *   Manages preservation and binding activities of the library.
 *   Manages materials processing activities.
 *   Manages shelving and filing of loose-leaf materials.
 *   Works with the Circulation Desk Supervisor to schedule hours for Technical Services staff at the Circulation Desk.
 *   Serves as a resource person for staff for the receiving/processing of government documents.
 *   Manages the processing of federal government depository documents and oversees the cataloging of these materials.
 *   Performs original and copy cataloging, classification, series and subject analysis for materials in all formats on an as needed basis.
 *   Works with the Associate Director for Collection Services and Systems to bulk load MARC bibliographic records in to the library catalog.
 *   Works with the Associate Director for Collection Services and Systems to insure that data integrity is maintained for all data being entered into the library catalog.
 *   Provides training and front-line support to staff in the use of library systems.
 *   Manages the hiring, scheduling, training and evaluation of student employees for Technical Services.
 *   Participates in revising policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining procedure documentation on the Technical Services website, preparing statistical and management reports, and responding to surveys, questionnaires, etc.
 *   Works with the Associate Director for Collection Services and Systems in project planning in collaboration with other library units.
 *   Performs other related duties as assigned.
 *   Serves the law library profession by participating at the local, regional, and/or national level in professional associations, attending or delivering presentations at professional conferences and continuing education programs, or publishing articles, chapters of books, etc. that adds to the library literature.

Education/Experience: M.L.S., M.L.I.S or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited school required, plus three to four years experience in technical services or collection management in an academic law library, research, academic or other special library with increasingly responsible professional experience in collection management. Significant experience with integrated library system (Ex LIbris Voyager) highly desired; supervisory experience, serials experience and acquisitions experience strongly preferred.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:

 *   Solid working knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LC Classification, USMARC formats and OCLC applications and related standards.
 *   Proficiency with computer applications in a Windows environment including: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
 *   Working knowledge of UNIX preferred.
 *   Commitment to stay abreast of the latest developments in Technical Services and management.
 *   Knowledge of current archival and preservation practices in libraries and how to apply them.
 *   Proven flexibility in adapting to changing priorities.
 *   Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills.
 *   Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in oral and written communication.
 *   Solid knowledge of overall technical services operations.
 *   Strong commitment to providing quality service to faculty, staff, students and to the collection.
 *   Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Physical Requirements: Light work. Stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.  Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
