Library Assistant – Full Time

The Washington County Public Library is searching for a qualified applicant
for *a* *full-time Library Assistant* for our Jonesborough Branch.

          Under general guidance of the Branch Manager, provides services to
users on resources and information available in the Library.  Assists users
in locating materials needed.  Participates in collection
maintenance/inventory activities.   Provides circulation functions such as:
checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, maintenance of
patron records, overdue/billed items, etc.  Provides interlibrary loan
services for patrons.  Prepares and maintains related reports and
records.  Provides
reference service at the desk, assisting library users in locating
information through a variety of print, audiovisual, and electronic
resources.  Responds to queries received in person, by phone, and
mail.   Maintains
stacks, reshelving items that have been used, and ensuring that all books
are shelved in order so that they can easily be retrieved by users.  Guides
and instructs patrons in the use of electronic resources such as the on-line
catalog, web-based periodicals index, online databases, downloadable
audiobooks, etc.  Assists in planning and presenting programming for
children, teens and adults.
   Requires at minimum graduation from a standard four-year high school or
equivalent (GED) and one to two years of college, and three (3) years of
experience related to the above described duties. Requires some knowledge of
community needs and library practices.  Requires effective communication and
interpersonal skills.  Must be able to use office machines
effectively.  *Requires
effective computer skills (level of computer skills will be ascertained
utilizing performance tests).*
       Position requires walking and standing, occasionally for long
periods.  Requires light lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds.  Requires
bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, frequent turning, and
occasional twisting.
       The position is 40 hours per week in a flexible schedule.  *Evening
and weekend hours required.*

*POSITION DESCRIPTION*

Reporting to the Sr. Web Programmer in Library Access Integration Services
(LAIS), the Programmer Analyst is responsible for the design, development,
testing, installation, and maintenance of Library web applications. Provides
technical support for the development of productivity enhancement
applications for use by Library staff in Microsoft SharePoint.



*RESPONSIBILITIES*

Designs, creates, tests, installs and implements web-based applications and
systems of simple to moderate complexity to meet the Library’s needs. May
make modifications to existing systems at all levels of difficulty.
Participates
in the decisions related to the development of programs and systems. Analyzes
user needs, time and budget constraints, and develops proposals for new
systems/interfaces or modifications to existing systems/interfaces. Users
can be internal to the Library or external University constituents. Develops
requirements and programming specifications for applications with a global
audience. Serves as liaison with library and University departments for
requirements gathering, solution recommendations, problem solving and
technical enhancements. Evaluates and recommend software for acquisition. Keeps
current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies that are
relevant to the job position. Recommends and implements new technologies as
appropriate. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts. May be

*QUALIFICATIONS*

Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and three years of programming
experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong
knowledge and experience with general web architecture. Demonstrated
experience developing web sites using HTML, CSS, and XML. Experience with
